Woman Says Gel Manicure Done Wrong Caused Possible Nerve Damage

Gel manicures are all the rage. Customers ordered them 24 percent more last year, according to a "Nails Magazine" survey. In a gel manicure, a special solution is applied to your nail and then hardened under a UV light for a longer-lasting manicure. But as with anything new, there's concern that it may not always be safe. We first heard about this issue from our friends at Consumer Reports. The gel manicure itself seems to be fine, but there are two problems: Some technicians don't do them right, and some nail salons are passing off other procedures as gel manicures when they're really not. We all want to look good as we get older, and for the majority of people, the signs of aging are most obvious on our face. Dermatologists remind wearing sunscreen, keeping sun exposure to a minimum and avoiding smoking, but what about slowing down premature aging from the inside? Recent studies say part of the answer may be cutting out soda. It seems like every time we turn around, there is another study about the negative health effects of soft drinks, and recently attention has turned to the damage it can do to your skin. When a patient consumes a lot of sugar, it shows in their skin.” Results from National Hea

High fashion isn't often inspired by environmental hazards, but as air pollution levels soared in Beijing last week, models at China Fashion Week walked the runway wearing designer respiratory face masks. The QIAODAN Yin Peng Sports Wear Collection showcased fashion and function in the same breath at the biannual event, which runs through the weekend. Some outfits had built-in face masks while others featured smog masks coordinated to match the ensemble. The runway shows briefly coincide with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, for which Beijing is implementing strict pollution controls.
