The Frozen Wedding Dress Is Here, So You Can Be an Elsa-Themed Bride for the First Time in Forever

Image
For months, you’ve wanted to dress like Queen Elsa of Arendelle for your wedding, but your fiancĂ© keeps telling you to “Let It Go.” And your attempts to find the perfect blue sparkly dress have been met with an icy reception from wedding gown shops. Well, great news: Your wedding planning process is about to get way more chill. Alfred Angelo, the designer behind Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings collection (which boasts gowns inspired by the main characters of Snow White, The Little Mermaid and The Princess and the Frog, among others) has finally released its Frozen-influenced gown. It comes in both classic ivory (for the fair-weather fans) and the princess’s signature ice blue (for the Disney diehards). Elsa’s flowy, sparkling overlay gets a modern update (her arms are covered by it in the film, while the runway version is strapless) via a chiffon train that hangs more like a cape to let the sweetheart neckline and snow-inspired beaded embellishment stand out. You’ll have to wai

How to Use Raw Potato on the Face for Lighter Skin

Image
Skin brightening is a viable option for those who want fairer, more even skin. Although chemical treatments are available, less-harsh home remedies exist that are safe and effective to try. Potatoes are one remedy that, while delicious to eat, can also be used for lightening and evening skin tone. To further help the process of getting fairer skin, exfoliate daily with a gentle scrub. Exfoliation helps remove dead skin buildup that can cause patches and uneven tones. Items you will need Large potato Potato peeler with pointed tip Fine kitchen grater Potato masher Bowl Face wash Wash cloth Step 1 Rinse a potato under cool water to soften and remove dirt. Step 2 Pick out any potato eyes with the peeler's pointed end. Rinse the potato once more with cool water. Step 3 Grate the potato with a fine grater

Is Apple Pay About to Change the Way You Buy Beauty Products?

Image
If the thought of pulling out your wallet and credit card to pay for something seems arduous—then you need to check yourself. But that's not to say we're not sympathetic, and help may be on the way: Apple is aiming to make your wallet obsolete. Today they’re launching Apple Pay, and it’s going to change the way you shop. Apple Pay is a new tool that allows you to pay for stuff both online and in-store with your iPhone 6 or 6 plus (sorry 5ers, you’ll need to upgrade). The new phones are built with a near-field communication (NFC) chip that securely stores your payment information. You hold the phone up to the reader at checkout, put your finger on the button, and that’s it. Your phone will beep or vibrate to let you know it worked. So how is this going to change the way you shop? For starters, you can check out a whole lot faster. I can’t be the only one whose handbag seems like a black hole. I’ve spent far too much time rummaging through my bag looking for my wallet, ke

Top beauty tricks that really work

Image
London - Keeping yourself looking your best is sometimes a tricky — and expensive — business. From pricey wrinkle creams and surgery, to terrifying electric gadgets meant to shock away signs of ageing, the beauty world is a minefield of misinformation, snake oil and wishful thinking. But there are things out there that can work miracles — it’s just knowing how to sort the duds from the diamonds, and recognising which areas to focus on. Here’s my invaluable guide to the top ten anti-ageing treatments and tricks that really will keep you looking wonderful. 1. HELP YOUR HANDS Would you plunge your face into hot washing-up water? No. Then why do it to your hands? As well as being constantly exposed to the elements, the hands have very little subcutaneous fat, which is one of the reasons they age so badly. Treat them with the same degree of care as your face. Use your night cream on them, slather them in sun protection and always wear gloves when you’re charging around the h

Kourtney Kardashian Is Pregnant With a Baby Girl: Mason, Penelope to Have a Sister

Image
Two girls and a little guy! Kourtney Kardashian's kids, Mason, 4, and Penelope, 2, will soon have a baby sister to look after — multiple sources confirm to Us Weekly that the pregnant reality star is having a girl with longtime love Scott Disick. Us exclusively broke news of Kardashian's third pregnancy back in June. She later confirmed that she was expecting during season nine of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, when she told a stunned Disick he was going to be a dad again. No doubt the soon-to-be mom-of-three is excited to have another mini-me. She and her sisters Kim and Khloe Kardashian already have a line of kids' clothing for girls, which Kourtney helped launch earlier this year. "I remember when I first found out I was having a boy, I became obsessed with buying boys' clothes. Then came my daughter, and I was obsessed with buying girls' clothes," she told Redbook in March. "Everything looks 10 million times cuter when it's teeny-t

Probiotics the Latest Trend in Beauty Products

Image
Probiotics may be the next big thing in skin care treatments, making their way from your digestive system into topical products and onto beauty-aisle shelves near you, thanks to dermatological researchers. The upshot: skin care treatments are popping up on the market with some science behind them. “We are going to see it in face masks, face washes, creams, serums and more,” says Alexis Wolfer, editor-in-chief of The Beauty Bean and author of “The Recipe for Radiance: Discover Beauty's Best-Kept Secrets in Your Kitchen.” “The way probiotics helps with your digestion is the same way it will help with your skin.” Just as they are said to calm stomach inflammation, probiotics are billed as having a calming effect on skin redness and irritation like stubborn acne or rosacea flare-ups. Probiotics send signals that stop your skin cells from reacting to bad bacteria, reactions that cause, you guessed it, acne or rosacea, the American Academy of Dermatology reported this year and th

Next up for 3D printing: Women's makeup

Image
Thirty-year-old Grace Choi may still live with her parents in Queens, New York, but her ambitions are much bigger. "My calling is to be an inventor—and if I am going to do this, let me do something meaningful," Choi said. The Harvard Business School grad wasn't ready to settle on one career, until she figured out how to print makeup from her own printer using FDA-approved ink (vegetable or edible ink), instead of the standard print colors. The company she's created from this discovery is called Mink. "I just tore up the printer, went through some bad ones, messed up a few here and there, and then came across one that worked,'' said Choi, who went through about 20 printers to find one that would print the best results. The small Mink prototype printer is about the size of a standard home printer, and turns any image into any kind of makeup. Women will soon be able to bypass stores and immediately create lipstick, lip gloss, eye shadow, blush, n

All You Need to Create an At-Home Spa Is a Washcloth

Image
Going to the spa is not always top priority, but we still want to give our skin the attention it deserves. Allure sat down with celebrity facialist Ling Chan and learned how to DIY a spa-level facial. I think we can all agree that a facial isn't really a facial unless you're lying down, having delicious creams spread all over your face, and listening to the sounds of a distant seashore. But according to Ling Chan, a facialist who has ministered to Gisele BĂĽndchen and Uma Thurman (and who owns two New York City spas and has her own skin care line), you really can make your skin smoother, softer, and less irritable by re-creating the professional experience at home. So this weekend, pour yourself a nice glass of cucumber water and follow these steps for some serious self-pampering. No shortcuts. "For an at-home facial that yields truly professional results, you can't skip steps or skimp on products," says Chan. "Every true facial should include exfoliat

Cancer Causing Ingredients – What You Need To Know

It’s October. Breast Cancer Awareness month. Jennifer Garner And Ben Affleck Clearly Loved Each Other Before They Even Dated

Image

But when did their relationship turn into more than just a friendship? According to Vulture, the spark may have struck during an appearance on Jon Favreau's short-lived IFC show, "Dinner for Five," in which directors and stars eat dinner together. In January 2003, the "Daredevil" cast, including Garner, Affleck, Colin Farrell and Kevin Smith, sat down for a meal with Favreau, and love was definitely in the air. For a detailed analysis of the "Dinner For Five" episode, head to Vulture. Beware of the flu while pregnant: Important reasons to get a vaccine

Image
Flu vaccines are recommended for pregnant women. They not only protect the mother but also give antibodies to the unborn infant. If you have ever had the flu, you know how devastating this illness can be. Now think if you are pregnant, you may not feel like taking all those over-the-counter comfort aids let alone Tamiflu to help rid the virus. Also, pregnancy puts women at a higher risk of getting serious health problems that arise from the seasonal flu. Still, I can understand the uncertainty where some women fear vaccines. They are mostly thinking about protecting the health of their unborn child. How many will not take a medicine or have a procedure done unless they know it's absolutely safe for the baby? Today doctors advise women to get the flu vaccines, especially while pregnant and here's why: If you get the flu virus during pregnancy, it raises the risk of miscarriage or a premature birth. The flu has a tendency of turning into pneumonia. Having pneumonia lo

One grouping of photos posted on the web, purported to be from Nick Hogan's personal online photo gallery, reportedly includes random photos of him at home with Hulk Hogan, nude photos of women, a nude Nick Hogan photo, two photos of his

Fall Trend Alert: Nail Art

Image
As a teenager, I cared a lot about "my look."  But really, the mark of my sartorial style was showcased in the form of acrylic nails, 10 uncomfortably long glued on nails, with designs so intricate, it would take my nail technician at least two hours to perfect them. That was more than a decade ago, which is why recently I was a bit surprised to see the resurgence of nail design, not only for teenage girls in urban cities, but mainstream America too. Flip through the latest fashion magazines and you’ll see models walking the runway with nail designs that compliment the complexities of the clothes they’re wearing. The designs are fun and funky, with detailed textures, jewels and even fabrics. Which makes me wonder, does this trend translate beyond 16-year-old girls? According to at least two top nail art bloggers, the answer is yes.  “Many of the runway trends we've seen are very wearable in the real world," says Sarah Waite, founder of Chalkboardnails.com.
