Kate Middleton Gives Us A Masterclass In Dressing Up A Classic Ponytail

Kate Middleton's famed for her luscious locks, but we're used to 'The Kate' being a tousled, glossy blow-dry. So you can imagine our surprise (and also, total approval) when we clocked her with this bumped-up ponytail at a charity event this week. That's right: The Duchess of Cambridge wears her hair up, too.

Despite opting to wear her hair down on her wedding day in 2012, Kate's choice of an updo this week is breath of fresh air from the long bob fever that's currently seized the beauty world. Kate's ponytail is ever so slightly lower than most, to allow for hair on top of the pony to be oomphed up, to give it more of a 'done' feel. It's like a tiny mini beehive going into the ponytail - very chic, and very understated.

Kate's hair is also ever so slightly falling around her face - we like that she kept it loose, rather than pulling everything back tight. It's more fun, but the height adds sophistication. The whole thing looks superbly unfussy, but still really polished. You can be a copy Kate (sorry) by teasing or backcombing every so slightly the top layers of your hair at the crown, then loosely pulling up the bottom layers and fastening into a pony. There are plenty of ways to wear a ponytail to make it more interesting - you can add height like Kate, wear it loose and low for a casual look or pull it tight and sleek for a more high fashion feel. Personally, we think Kate's pony is totally party ready. Pass the kirby grips, will you?
